Abstract

The text starts with a global discussion of the Manchester style in the study of political phenomena, and the general features of the Manchester School, that is very little known in Latin America. The following discussion turns around the advances made by the Manchester School in the study of political phenomena, in comparison with the situation of British social anthropology. The point of departures is Max Gluckman’s political anthropology, followed by a discussion of the revolution the publication of Political Anthropology of Swartz, Turner &Tuden represented in 1966, ending with a general treatment of the themes treated by the Manchester School in political anthropology (and sociology) and a brief discussion of the School’s situation today.
