Abstract

Investigations into the archeology of the present province of Chachapoyas, Amazonas department, Peru, have offered important achievements that define a prolonged human occupation since the time of Archaic Period to the Inca presence. Such achievements are sustained as a result of targeted approaches to the study of monumental architectural remains and some associated cultural materials. However, studies on rock art are still insufficient to establish a clear understanding of their chronology, styles and their implications in the context of the regional landscape where they are located. In this framework of knowledge it is necessary to increase the registration of cave expressions that contribute to contrast the data-oriented features and demarcate their cultural affinities. Therefore, this paper attempts mostar nature of the petroglyphs of La Pitaya, located in the Peruvian province of Chachapoyas, in the context of archeology and the environment of its implementation. The site chosen and iconography reflected by their ancestral authors should be linked to the Andean Amazonian routes interrelation aspect that should produce the presence of the site subject of this report.
