Abstract

The Agricultural People’s Front of Peru (Frepap) is a political party affiliated with the Evangelical Association of the Israelite Mission of the New Universal Covenant (Aeminpu), a religious congregation founded by Ezequiel Ataucusi. Since 1990 it has participated in electoral processes nationwide (presidential, congressional, municipal). However, due to internal factors, the party lost its registration in 2011. In 2016, the party registered back again and took part of the 2018 elections, having its most successful participation in the extraordinary elections for congress, becoming a media surprise by obtaining 15 seats and becoming the third political force in congress for the 2020-2021 period. In 2021, however, the party failed to gain any seats in congress, hence losing its registration, which constitutes a setback considering the party’s performance in the two previous elections. How involved is the Frepap militancy in Peruvian politics? What is the impact of the religious doctrine in Frepap? What is the role of Aeminpu’s current leader, Ezequiel Jonas Ataucusi Molina, in Frepap’s performance? The following article provides some approaches to solve these questions.
