Caracterización de POPs y PAHs en fragmentos plásticos: Estudio de Caso en el Callao

Este estudio evalúa la contaminación por microplásticos y contaminantes orgánicos persistentes (POPs) e hidrocarburos aromáticos policíclicos (PAHs) en la Bahía del Callao, Perú. Se realizaron muestreos en seis estaciones desde Playa Pachacútec hasta La Punta, a 500 metros de la costa. Los microplásticos recolectados fueron cuantificados, identificando grupos de contaminantes adsorbidos: PAHs, bifenilos policlorados (PCBs), metabolitos de DDT (DDX), pentaclorobenceno (PeCB), hexaclorobenceno (HeCB) y hexaclorociclohexano (HCHs). Los resultados mostraron 97.1204 items/m³ de microplásticos, equivalente a 5,170,073.7321 items/km². Las concentraciones fueron 1749 ng/g para PAHs, 151.7 ng/g para PCBs, 311 ng/g para DDX, 13.0 ng/g para PeCB y HeCB, y 3.72 ng/g para HCHs. Comparado con otros estudios, la Bahía del Callao presenta niveles de contaminación similares o superiores, especialmente en PAHs y DDX. Esto subraya la necesidad de medidas de mitigación para reducir la contaminación marina y proteger la salud humana.
