Abstract

The planning, operation, maintenance and rating of transmission systems are Based on the accurate knowledge of the operating variables of these lines: active powers, reactive powers, voltages and phase angles. Those operating variables are calculated and based on the physical transmission system parameters. Resistances, inductive reactance’s, leakages capacitances and conductance. In the electrical power transmission system (North-Center Area) it has been found that on many transmission lines the physical parameters true values are unknown due to the following factors: Significant changes due to aging, pollution and adverse operation conditions or because of parameters with poorly calculated original rated values. In addition, this deviation may be verified because its operation variables measured values depart from its respective calculated values (in some variables the deviation is fairly significant, as is the case with the active powers. reactive powers and power losses) which is indicative that physical parameters true values (values usually used for the calculation of operating variables) are not in keeping with the correct ones, and therefore, such deviation is giving rise to a lot of troubles within the electrical, area.
