Abstract

Physical limits af the present day microelectronics are discussed and argurments given, why working principles of conventional transistor-based designs will fail. Theoretical concepts are applied to quantum functional de vices and their requirements for basic properties, like quantization and coupling effects, carrier transport as well as time constants.
