Red de Interface De Datos Mediante Fibra Optica- UNMSM

Abstract

Since at National University Major Of San Marcos the academic and administrative units (Faculties, Institutes and Research Centers, Central Administration and Central Library) were not linked by means of a Data Network we had to introduce in early 1995 the project “Fiber Optic Data Interface Network” – UNMSM in Electronic Engineering Faculty Research unit. Once we finished the project and after proposing it before present university administrations officials, in the middle of 1995 suchofficials made the decision of making the proyect a reality and it was finished in may 1995. In this paper the goodnesses of Fiber Optic Data Network were expounded as regards model of linear bus – ring topology. Likewise, Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) acts as boosting and multiplying element for the perfomance of network, specially where many stations are available. During the stage of desing of Data Network we used standars for Fiber Optic Distributed Data Interface such as: models for Interconecction of open systems, the trasmission medium access control and network managing. On the other hand, this network will in general provide the university with the following service: available access to data base (inner and outer), available access to academic- administrative system, connection to internet in order to make the web page services available, file transfer, electronic mail, telnet and others, such as voice and video in the future (ATM technology).
