Abstract

Cover photo: In the 60s, the Santa Elisa building, of great luxury and splendor, located in the heart of the historic center of Lima, was the first and most important savings cooperative in Latin America. In 2011, the press and mass media declared the Santa Elisa building “the most powerful cave in the lumpen world of Central Lima.”
Saint Elisa is the metaphor of a marked body. His tattooed skin, covered with scars, tells the story of his soul, which refers to many souls.
My intention was to rummage through its corners and passageways, to find poetic and artistic images despite the rubble, dirt and deterioration. As an artist I wanted to show the other side of Santa Elisa, to make us forget the stigma of “lumpen cave”.
These images are the discovery of an archaeologist who turns the rubble into a treasure.
