Carlos Iván Degregori (CID) se definía como antropólogo además de intelectual de izquierda. Razón no le faltaba. Cuando se observa su trayectoria esta no deja de invitarnos a revisar el vínculo que su generación entabló entre la vida académica y el pulso del compromiso político y las dramáticas vicisitudes que ese lazo sufrió con el tiempo. Releyendo sus escritos uno se pregunta qué papel —si alguno— jugaron las Ciencias Sociales y los científicos sociales en definir los rasgos y el rumbo del país. O invirtiendo la figura, sobre el papel que ha jugado la sociedad en definir el perfil de sus científicos sociales y de los saberes que desarrollan. Me pregunto en qué medida su itinerario intelectual resultó a su vez impactado por las profundas convulsiones sociales, políticas y culturales que transformaron al Perú en la segunda mitad del siglo xx.
