Abstract

This essay reviews how current social sciences make use of the concept of landscape as an analytical category in territorial research. The study of landscape implies an important multidisciplinary process, in which history serves as a fundamental axis to represent the dynamics of social and environmental structures and morphologies that leave traces in the spaces. Landscapes are windows to the different ways of being and doing in history, giving rise to a tool with great possibilities for understanding the sudden transformations of contemporary regions. The discussion proposed in this sense, begins by finding the theoretical-methodological position of landscape studies in the social sciences, specifically with the cultural approach in geography.
