Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of chamomile infusion in drinking water on the productive performance and survival of laying quail (Coturnix japonica). In total, 270 20-week-old quails were used, distributed into three groups: control (water without chamomile), intermittent treatment (water with chamomile every two weeks) and permanent treatment (water with chamomile throughout the experiment). The study lasted 30 weeks. The results showed that chamomile-infused drinking water supplied intermittently or permanently improved egg mass, laying percentage and feed conversion without affecting egg weight and feed consumption. The provision of chamomile in the drinking water decreased the mortality of the quail, as well as the presence of oviductal prolapse.
