The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of antibodies against Leptospira spp. using the microagglutination test (MAT) in domestic cats (Felis catus). Two hundred blood samples were collected by venipuncture of the cephalic vein of cats that came to a veterinary clinic in Lima for consultation. The blood serums were obtained through centrifugation and were stored frozen (-20 °C) until analysis. Live serovars of L. canicola, L. icterohaemorrhagiae, L. pomona, L. autumnalis, L. hardjo and L. grippotyphosa were tested. The prevalence of antibodies against the six serovars of Leptospira interrogans was 10 ± 4.1% (95% CI), with no significant statistical association (p>0.05) found with age, sex and breed, in addition to certain breeding characteristics.
