Finaliza el año 2011, a cien años del reencuentro de Machu Picchu por Hiram Bingham, el 24 de julio de 1911. Esta impresionante obra arquitectónica -‘Montaña o Pico Viejo’- es admirada por todo el mundo por su majestuosidad dentro de un paisaje incomparable, por lo que fue considerada Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la Unesco en 1983 y una de las nuevas siete maravillas del mundo moderno en 2007. Localizada a cerca de 2 500 metros sobre el nivel del mar, el Santuario de Machu Picchu habría sido mandado a construir por el inca Pachacútec como una extensión de campos agrícolas y como santuario religioso. Nunca fue encontrado por los conquistadores españoles, pero las guerras internas habrían provocado el retiro de sus habitantes en la época de Manco Inca. Su visita nos recuerda la grandiosidad de nuestros antepasados en lo que se refiere a organización, trabajo en equipo, conocimiento de ingeniería, cultivo en andenes, manejo de las aguas y uso de las plantas medicinales, punto último que nos lleva a la presentación de los dos primeros artículos del presente número de Anales.Downloads
