Abstract

The first resection of lung tissue in man made (Tuffier 1897 Hendenhain in 1900), were preceded by many failed interventions and countless animal testing. Nissen in 1931, managed to play the first pneumonectomy, with satisfactory results, because of bronchiectasis in the left lung. Today, radical excision of lung tuberculosis can be performed successfully when a correct selection of the case to intervene, a good use of antibiotics and proper assessment of respiratory function is done, not only indicates the greater or lower surgical risk from the functional point of view, it becomes possible to avoid respiratory disability.
