El presente número de Anales está dedicado a trabajos de investigación desarrollados por el Centro de Investigación de Bioquímica y Nutrición de nuestra Facultad y presentados por la Revista en homenaje a los 50 años de existencia de dicho Centro, creado el 23 de marzo de 1957. Recordamos de nuestros estudios en medicina que la bioquímica es la ciencia que estudia los componentes químicos de los seres vivos, particularmente las proteínas, carbohidratos, lípidos y ácidos nucleicos, así como otras pequeñas moléculas presentes en las células. Cuando la bioquímica estudia las moléculas biológicas -que están compuestas principalmente de carbono, hidrógeno, oxígeno, nitrógeno, fósforo y azufre- , en realidad está dedicando su investigación a la función de las células y los tejidos, que catalizan las diversas reacciones químicas de la vida. Se dice que el comienzo de la bioquímica pudo haber sido el descubrimiento de la primera enzima, la diastasa, en 1893, por Anselme Payen.Downloads
