Reply: The importance of detecting the SARS-CoV-2 virus by means of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test in undergraduate students of health sciences

Agradezco el interés y comentarios al artículo cuyo objetivo fue determinar la seroprevalencia de IgM e IgG contra el SARS-CoV-2 con el propósito de contar con mayor información en la población joven, utilizando criterios de comparación con estudios en población general con pruebas similares a las usadas por el Ministerio de Salud del Perú (MINSA), y disponibles al momento del diseño del estudio (1). Como se describe en el artículo, el MINSA realizó estudios de seroprevalencia utilizando pruebas rápidas de detección de IgM e IgG (2). El estudio no buscaba la presencia del virus mediante el uso de PCR, que indicaría quiénes se encontraban infectados en el momento de la investigación. El diagnóstico individual de enfermedad no fue el objetivo del estudio, sino la presencia de anticuerpos que expresan una respuesta inmunológica a la infección. Los hallazgos del estudio se comprenden con estas condiciones.
