Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To determine the serologic tuberculosis-specific IgA test’s sensitivity and specificity. DESIGN: Prospective case-control study. SETTING: Hospital Nacional Dos de Mayo from October 1998 through March 1999. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Eighty-one tuberculosis cases diagnosed by smear and culture and/or Koch bacillus positive biopsy, and 86 healthy controls. The tuberculosis serologic diagnosis was done by IgA response to P-90 antigen by immune absorbent enzyme test (EIA-TBÒ, Kreatech; Amsterdam, the Netherlands) prepared from BCG. RESULTS: The test sensitivity was 96,3%, and specificity 77,9%. CONCLUSIONS: IgA detection by Mycobacterium tuberculosis Kp 90 Im CRAC antigen is not useful in tuberculosis diagnosis, especially in the important percentage of BK negative treated patients.
