Cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass in the hospital " Archbishop Loayza", 1967-1970

Abstract

In 67 cases operated by the Cardio- Surgical Equipment , Faculty of Medicine UNMSM in eHospital A. Loayza, total mortality was 35.7% . Hospital mortality was 28.3 % ( 19 cases). The commitment of the mitral valve, in isolation , represents most of the 67 operated cases ( 67.5%) . The mortality in mitral valve lesions depended on how the injury was corrected. In open commissurotomy opencast cycle was 5.2 % in the valve replacement mortality increased significantly to 34.6 %, but in the last year dropped to 25 %. Of congenital heart disease atrial septal represented 87.5% and its correction was carried out with a mortality rate of 14.2 . In three cases of aortic valve replacement and there was no mortality in 5 cases of double valve replacement mortality was 80 %. The main causes of death were post - infusion , air embolism and blood dyscrasias myocardial failure , ventricular fibrillation , pulmonary syndrome. The most frequent complications were rhythm disturbances , myocardial insufficiency , severe bleeding, wound infection , endocarditis and thromboembolism .
