Observations on the therapeutic and pharmacological actions of fluocortolone

Abstract

Was performed in 30 patients, a clinical study of the therapeutic and pharmacological effects of the fluocortolone ( Ultralan - ( R ) 1) , novel synthetic steroid derived from corticosterone . As adjunctive treatment of tuberculostatic drugs was administered to 18 patients with different clinical forms of tuberculosis (pleurisy with effusion , meningitis , miliary seeding) , in 6 patients with hypersensitivity reactions , 2 with systemic lupus erythematosus, one with dermotomiositis and 3 with leukemia . It has been seen that fluocortolone possesses a good anti- inflammatory effect with a relatively low potential to cause the appearance of secondary maniIestaciones . On the second day of administration, determinations and 17 - 0HS urinary 17 -KS showed that a single morning dose of 30 mgms . , Fluocortolone has a suppressive effect of somewhat less than 2 mgms adrenal function . dexamethasone are administered as in the test of Liddle . At the end of the third week of a 4 week course of treatment, the average value of the 17 - 0HS descended urinals to constitute 20 % of baseline and 3 days after the suspension thereof be reached 66 %.
