Abstract

The author measured the time of response to a visual stimulus, in the men not acclimated to high altitudes. He made determinations at sea level (Lima), in Morococha (14,800 ft.) and Huancayo 110,500 ft.), recording the results by automatic devices, in order to disregard completely any mistakes caused by deficiencies due to lack of acclimatization of the observatory himself. The evaluation of results, includes time and regularity of response. Eight individuals showed longer time of response in Morococha; the other two had a shorter time. Among those eight, five showed an increase of 10 to 25 %, and three only 1 to 3 %. Concerning the other two, one showed 15 % less, and the other 10 % less. Regarding to the regularity of reaction in author found a dicrease of 25 %. He also found differences. As for the results in Huancayo, compared to those in Lima, the author found a lengthening of 10 % in time of response, with an improvement in regularity. He a1so found great individual differences. The author a1so studies the time of visual response in cases of Monge's Disease and in abnormal cases (coca and alcohol).
