Abstract

It is important the revaluation of natural species used as Pharmaceutical against synthesis products in regions where the aborigines millenary tradition had made vegetals into very valuable resources for a natural Medicine employed mainly by people who can not get to classical Medicine treaments. The growing awareness about the need for preserving the natural vegetal patrimony against the species decrease because of man´s depredatoring action has revired the interest on the knowedge and study of native species. The aim of this work war to determine the presence of pharmacologically active or toxic substances for human feeding in Morrenia odorata (Hook & Arn.] Lindl. fruits. The physico-chemical composition of the fruits, applying specific reactions, was also investigated. The toxicity trials show that M. adorata is suitable for human consumption for therapeutic purposes, in folk Medicine, prepared as roots, leaves and fruits decoctions or infussions. The nutritional content analysis of the fruits shows that M. odorata has higher amounts of the main components and greater energetic supplies than other conventional fruits.These results will perrmit the popularization of the cosumption of «tasi» fruits as an alternative for human feeding.
