Estimativa de la Extinción Interestelar para dos Nebulosas Planetarias de la Pequeña Nube de Magallanes

El polvo interestelar produce la extinción de la luz de las estrellas y de nebulosas distantes. En la región visible del espectro la extinción es debida principalmente a la dispersión y parcialmente a la absorción de la luz, mientras que en la región ultravioleta se debe principalmente a la absorción. Sin embargo, el proceso como un todo es referido como absorción interestelar. Esta es la razón por la que observamos algunos objetos brillantes como si fuesen tenues. Es debido a que la luz de estos objetos debe atravesar una región rica en polvo interestelar.
