Abstract

Rosaleen Howard es profesora emérita (catedrática de Estudios Hispánicos) en la Escuela de Lenguas Modernas de la Universidad de Newcastle (Reino Unido) y fue profesora titular en el Instituto de Estudios Latinoamericanos de la Universidad de Liverpool (Reino Unido). Se desenvuelve en los campos de la sociolingüística crítica latinoamericana, la antropología lingüística y la lingüística antropológica. Sus investigaciones tratan sobre temas variados como las lenguas quechuas, la narración quechua y la historia oral, las lenguas indígenas y las políticas educativas, la legislación sobre derechos lingüísticos y las ideologías lingüísticas. Howard ha desarrollado trabajos acerca de las tensiones que existen entre el lenguaje, la identidad y el poder en Ecuador, Perú y Bolivia, países donde ha realizado una investigación etnográfica crítica durante varias décadas, lo que condujo a la producción de notables publicaciones y contribuciones (Howard-Malverde, 1997; Howard, 2007, 2009; Howard y Stobart, 2002).

    Cursa el doctorado en la Universidad de Newcastle en el Reino Unido, donde estudia los enfoques y los desafíos de la enseñanza, y el aprendizaje del quechua en un entorno occidental. Estudió una maestría también en la Universidad de Newcastle. Para su investigación, comparó los contextos de peligro de las lenguas quechuas de Perú y normanda de la Francia continental y de las Islas del Canal. Sus intereses de investigación incluyen la sociolingüística latinoamericana, la lingüística antropológica, las ideologías lingüísticas y las pedagogías de lenguas indígenas. Ha estado enseñando quechua de forma voluntaria a estudiantes y personal de la Universidad de Newcastle durante los últimos cinco años.
