Abstract

Dependence on oil revenues has been a backward to the reforms initiated during the Hugo Chavez´ government. The fall in oil prices has begun an economic crisis in Venezuela, which has promoted heterogeneous structural rearrangements, represented in the figure of “bachaqueo”. A crisis beyond the economic factor is reaching other aspects of social life. However, the main alternatives ignore to challenge the rentier state and its consequences on the environmental degradation and cultural diversity.
