Abstract

The analysis of the social representations of university youth students allows us to understand the way in which they understand a daily sociocultural phenomenon, highly valid but whose effects are pernicious and are associated with the exercise of partner violence. In this work, the social representations of young university students about jealousy were investigated, as well as differences by sex. The methodology was qualitative, 6 men and 4 women participated. Among the findings, it stands out that young people have a dichotomist representation made up of two types of jealousy: those accepted and those not accepted. Each type of jealousy will determine the experience and the conduct that you are willing to live with your partner. Regarding differences by sex, men mark as accepted jealousy the jealousy that they themselves express towards their partner, that is, it is self-referential. The jealousy not accepted, for the man involves some type of violence, for example physical attacks. In the case of women, their social representation of unaccepted jealousy implies not accepting verbal violence or prohibitions.
