This article presents the work in verse and prose of the pre-Renaissance writer Diego de Silva and Guzmán. It explains his role in the beginnings of the Spanish literary creation in Peru and Latin America. It discusses the importance of the Poema del descubrimiento del Perú (Poem of the discovery of Peru and La toma del Cuzco (The Occupation of Cuzco), which are, respectively, the first book of poetry and the first novel written in Spanish with themes of the New World.Downloads
