Abstract

It is usually thought that unconditional love is exclusive of the existing relationship between mother and child because of the dependency of the object of love. However, love is not an object external to us, but an inherent ability to trust and it must be exercised. The reason why this evidence has been forgotten is because emotions are thought to be irrational and that they cannot be controlled. Kant suggests that emotions are the result of the application of these principles rather than they govern our actions.

This capability is inherent to the human being and this can be proved with a Greco-Roman myth “Metamorphoses (The Golden Ass)” of Apuleius, which will be analyzed from the Kantian imperatives. These must overcome the historical contingency and demonstrate universality about disappointment in love in contrast to the correspondence between Kant and the Kantian philosopher, Maria von Herbert.
