Apuntes toscanos (Tuscan notes) by Jorge Wiesse is a set of three portraits corresponding to the same number of cities in the eponymous region, on the west side of central Italy. The author poetically transcribes his impressions after visiting Siena, Arezzo and Florence. Although the texts are of small size, they condense a huge semantic content that combines the visual data with the conceptual language. Our approach challenges Frege’s referential theory that goes against fiction and poetry restricting their ability to refer to the objects, as does the scientific discourse. After a review to the theory of signs, we discussed these assertions. Then we start our examination of the Apuntes, in order to increase our understanding of them.Downloads
