Architecture, beauty and adequacy in the early articles of Luis Miró Quesada Garland (1938-1944)

The architect Luis Miró Quesada Garland published the book Espacio en el tiempo. La arquitectura moderna como fenómeno cultural in 1945. At that time, he had almost ten years of professional practice and many others writing articles on art and architecture. This paper analyzes a selection of Miró Quesada's early writings, published between 1938 and 1944, in order to understand his approaches to beauty, adequacy and style. The hypothesis maintains that these articles contain the germ of the theoretical proposal that will be developed later in the book. As a specific objective, it intends to examine his contributions, both in the visual arts and in the theoretical field that served as a basis. It starts on the approach of Juan Acha who points out that it is essential to know our Latin American reality and theorize art according to our needs, because our art responds to local needs, obeys contemporary influences and is at the same time conservative.
