This article studies the image of the grandmother in the poetry book Sanchiu, by Dina Ananco, a Peruvian-Wampis poet, with the aim of demonstrating its importance in the author's project to make the Wampis culture visible and revalorise it. Our research hypothesis is that the image of the grandmother represents ancestral wisdom and fulfils the function of preserving it and transmitting it to new generations. To support this, we will analyse the poem "Sanchiu", the poem of the same name, in dialogue with the paratexts of the work and with the author's interviews in which she talks about her grandmother, all in the context of poetry written in native languages, where the image of grandparents is presented as a common theme, with similar features and functions.
