There is considerable criticism of the general work of José María Arguedas, especially his novels. Precisely this article aims to analyze the critical reception and debate surrounding his posthumous novel The Fox Above and the Fox Below (1971). To do this, a set of notable books and articles are chosen that compare with Arguedas's correspondence to follow the path of the origin of the novel and its writing and finally the debate. For them, the methodology of document criticism is followed.
