La experiencia de aproximarse a un ensayo que no se encuentra interesado en la pretensión, sino en la relación cercana de un escritor fundamental de la literatura peruana con un ícono como Franz Kafka, es un privilegio. La edición que el lector tendrá entre sus manos, será un trabajo más cuidado que el primero (1999) y busca hacer el honor de recuperar un testimonio literario con un clásico universal del siglo XX. Pero ¿qué se puede decir después de que mares de elogios se han vertido sobre la obra de Kafka? Consideramos que la sinceridad y los deslindes con los lugares comunes son la base de lo propuesto por Gutiérrez. Esto quiere decir que, a pesar de ser un texto dirigido a una lectoría amplia, no ceja en realizar una presentación personal de Kafka que pueda ser un aporte dentro de la amplia bibliografía sobre este.
