Como muchos otros, Manuel Nicolás Corpancho es uno de esos autores claves de la literatura peruana que muy pocos han leí- do realmente. Es un hecho que su nombre figura en las clásicas historias de la literatura nacional, como la de Luis Alberto Sánchez o la de Augusto Tamayo Vargas, para mencionar las más conocidas, pero los lectores contemporáneos que han podido acceder a su obra más importante, El poeta cruzado (1851), son prácticamente inexistentes. Este drama supone el ingreso de la escuela romántica al territorio nacional, y constituye uno de los primeros intentos de asimilación y adaptación de esa nueva estética. Gracias al admirable trabajo de rescate de ediciones MyL y a la edición preparada por el investigador Jhonny Pacheco Quispe, el libro más conocido de Corpancho vuelve a circular entre los lectores para ser comentado.
