Alberto Hidalgo's poetry has been internationally recognized. This poetry has seduced Spanish-speaking readers inside and outside the academy. In this sense, the vastness of his work has transcendental dimensions that cover from his first books published in Arequipa to the last ones he wrote in Buenos Aires. Despite such breadth, the book by José Gabriel Valdivia chooses to approach to poetic production in his first stage; therefore, his analysis emphasizes aspects such as the nuances of futurism in his first two collections of poems and the trend changes in his early writing. In addition, it includes a selection of poems, a literary biography and other additions to approach the study of the Peruvian poet.
Given this, the following review attempts to define the relevant points of this analysis, while we distinguish it from other similar ones such as those of Manuel Pantigoso Pecero and Pedro Larrea Rubio, we define it according to its contribution to the reconstruction and understanding of the poetic tradition from Arequipa, and we read it as a reference to the national reality that has been evoked by Hidalgo in several of his works. In this way, the José Gabriel Valdivia´s introductory proposal in Poemas sin mayoría de edad de Alberto Hidalgo will become visible.
