Abstract

In 1593 Quipucamayocs and shepherds of Canta town reported back to Don Juan Vargas Venegas, mayor, chief Judge, Residency Judge and Accounts Judge of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción de Canta Province, his jurisdiction against Don Alonso de Armet and his officers about accounts and the taxes paid by the Indians, and contributions of Indian peoples: Huamantanga, Pacaraos, Hanan Piscas, Hurin Piscas and Atavillos, in the central highlands of the Andes, around Lake hinchaycocha known as Atavillos, they had about 90.000 camelids. This aroused the envy of Francisco Pizarro to Arrogate the encomienda of Atavillos in 1534.
