This paper is situated within the field of historical anthropology and examines the process of land restitution of the peasant community of Pararin, in Northern Peru, in the context of peasant movements in their struggle for land. The people of Pararin are considered as actors of their local history with capacity for agency. Thus, in the decade of 1960, this peasant community used their historical memory to come together, and undertook a process of struggle to reclaim what their regarded, historically, their agricultural lands in the Fortaleza valley. Ultimately, they obtained the recognition of the State, but not without some unexpected difficulties during the process.
