Through this research, we seek to fill a historiographical void about the evolution of the National Library in the 19th century, which is to know about the management of the priest Joaquin Paredes as head of the main cultural institution of the nascent republican Peru, until the moment that is removed from office. Through documentary sources, it is possible to study and analyze his concern to take actions for the better conservation of books, despite his inexperience in a similar position. Despite his tireless efforts to move the National Library forward, the last part of his period as librarian was marred by the scandal of the alleged theft of a text and the non-execution of the inventory.
