Abstract

Currently, different samples of finely carved pre-Hispanic ashlars are observed in Yambrasbamba (Bongará-Amazonas), which do not have any archaeological study so far. Three of these have figurative engravings in high relief, whose iconography is diagnostic of the Formative Period. Also, we explore some possibilities in relation to their functionality and the worldview of the societies that made them; we also reflect on the influence of this and other sites, of the Imaza and Utcubamba river basins, on interregional interaction networks during the Formative Period, based mainly on iconographic comparisons with other sites from this period.
