Desde un punto de vista biomédico, la sordera es entendida como una pérdida auditiva superior a 35dB y se clasifica según el momento de adquisición, lugar de lesión, etiología y grado de pérdida auditiva. La sordera afecta a más de 360 millones de personas en el mundo 1,2.
