Abstract

Introduction: Dental infections arise when bacteria colonizing the oral cavity invade the periodontium, leading to abscesses in surrounding tissues and, less frequently, in vital organs. Objective: To describe the clinical case of a patient with liver abscesses secondary to odontogenic infectious processes. Case report: A 49-year-old male patient presented to the National Cancer Institute (INCan), Mexico city, Mexico, with suspected hepatic neoplasm. A fine-needle aspiration biopsy revealed S. intermedius. Subsequently, he attended the Dental Service due to a possible infectious focus in tooth 47. Result: After tooth extraction and antibiotic therapy, the patient experienced a significant decrease in symptoms caused by the infection. Conclusion: Odontogenic infections can generate distant abscesses, even in vital organs.
