This essay presents a current vision of the reality faced by children and adults with respect to play. It contemplates premises such as the importance of play in human development, the difficulties that play has when societies prioritize work or study, and issues related to the fact that play has been seen as a waste of time and does not have a determined and tangible product to show. Play is a child’s right and as such should be respected and encouraged; we see today that certain adults limit the capacity for play, affecting the enormous possibilities for the expression of freedom, exploration and therefore, the pleasure of the joy of discovery and the use of imagination, key elements in education and human development.
