tributeAbstract
This volume is dedicated to three Peruvian botanists whose passion for recording, describing and protecting the Peruvian flora marked the formal emergence of the botanical discipline in Peru in the 20th century. Thanks to them, this discipline grew with the recording and compilation of the flora, as well as being reinforced in the academic field through the training of several generations of Peruvian botanists. We owe Fortunato Herrera his vision for compiling data on the Peruvian flora; we owe Ramón Ferreyra and César Vargas their efforts to explore the national territory and document its flora. Their botanical collections allowed the birth of Peruvian herbaria as institutions, important inputs for being able to evaluate the richness of the flora, its distribution patterns and its state of conservation.
