Peer Review Process

The articles published by the Revista Peruana de Biologia will be submitted to an evaluation process:

  1. Admission: Manuscripts are receipt and evaluated in the first instance by the Editorial Team who will review the compliance with the Guidelines for the presentation of the works. The manuscript is reviewed with an anti-plagiarism software (Ithenticate-Turnitin), works with more than 10% similarities in texts, including recycled texts (self-plagiarism) will be rejected. The works that do not comply with some of the requirements will not be accepted. This proccess take 15 days.
  2. Peer review: The manuscript will be assigned to an Editor responsible, who will lead the review process and has reseachs on the same subject area as the manuscript. The Editor responsible will review the manuscript, and can suggest changes, corrections or reject the manuscript, if it is not within the aims of the journal or has significant and visible errors. The Editor responsible requests the evaluation of the manuscript from anonymous reviewers (peer review), usually three. The reviewers will be selected for their expertise and knowledge on theme of the work submited. The reviewer is asked to evaluate according to international quality criteria for scientific publications. This process has a very variable duration, usually between 2 to 4 months.
  3. The reviewers will have the following characteristics: knowledge of the subject, not having competition problems, having recognition as a researcher and academic, responsibility and discretion in the evaluation. The reviewers will be informed about recommendations of ethics and good editioral practices that the Editorial Committee expects. The selected reviewers do not receive remuneration. The authors of the articles may suggest reviewers in their cover letter, when work si submited; Editorial Committee reserves the right to select the reviewers. The type of review is simple ie the reviewer remains anonymous.
  4. Evaluation: The reviewers suggest and recommendations on how to improve the article. The evaluation qualifies the manuscripts as:
  • Publication without changes
  • Publication with minor changes
  • Publication with major changes
  • Rejected
  • Suggestion for its publishes in other magazine

The Editor responsible summarizes the evaluation and notifies the corresponding author about the decision on the manuscript. In the case of suggestions and corrections, the author has 30 days to resolve and submit them. Corrections must be explicitly in the manuscript. In the case of "Work for publication with major changes"; usually, the manuscript is sent to another Editor responsible.

Acceptance and ARTICLE IN PRESS.

      The work has the status of ACCEPTED when the review process has finished and the author has made all the corrections and modifications indicated. Accepted work is sent to style correction and layout. One proof galley version will be sent to the author for it to be reviewed and returned with a letter of agreement and permission for its publication. If another proof is necesary, author can ask for it. When the Director of the journal has the documentation that will allow him to publish the work, then the work will be considered ARTICLE IN PRESS. The time it takes from submission to the "article in press" is usually between four and six months.
