This article makes a general review of the economic arguments of Peru’s most prominent Marxist archaeologists, taking into account the theoretical framework used, the conceptual coherence of their formulations and their methodological considerations. In this sense, the article reviews their arguments in relation to classical Marxism, revealing that archaeologists attached to historical materialism have not had Marxism as a problem and possibility at the center of their theoretical reflection, but rather as a series of very general economic concepts, which has generated a generic narrative about Andean societies.
