El libro presentado por el Fondo Editorial de la Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola (USIL), por varios motivos constituye una grata aparición. En primer lugar, debido a que surge de un esfuerzo colectivo por seguir profundizando en las investigaciones científicas sobre el más importante proceso inmigratorio que tuvo el Perú en el siglo XIX (y que en número ha sido ampliamente superado por la actual inmigración venezolana, pero que, en porcentajes con respecto a las poblaciones de sus respectivas épocas, constituyen estimados similares).
