This article analyzes the process of incorporating school excursions into regular educational practice, during the so-called aristocratic republic (1895-1919), driven by a liberal educational policy and as part of an experience of modernization of Peruvian education. School excursions allowed the emancipation of educational life, which until then was exercised in closed environments and disconnected from national life. This facilitated the introduction of new values and principles, which sought to arouse curiosity, rationality, and students’ active participation. Nevertheless, it collided with a conservative force, with a militaristic tone, which was going in the opposite direction, causing this educational experience to have limited results.
