La pandemia de la COVID-19 ha afectado a los países de todo el mundo y en todos los ámbitos, de ello no está exenta la atención odontológica, la cual está considerada como una de las prácticas sanitarias con mayor riesgo de contagio 1. El virus SARS-CoV-2, que causa la COVID-19, se trasmite de persona a persona a través de pequeñas gotas de saliva (microgotas de Flügge) 2 que se emiten al hablar, estornudar, toser o respirar 3 y son tres vías potenciales: en la parte superior e inferior del tracto respiratorio, en la sangre (a través del líquido crevicular) y por la infección de una glándula salival 4.
