The liberal economic process that Peru first experienced in the second half of the 18th century modernized the economy and daily life. However, he failed to change the predominant economic structure in the viceroyalty. An event that damaged the Peruvian internal economy as it caused severe decapitalization and an extreme deficit in the balance of payments. This led to the failure of these reforms, which was reflected in a series of economic and social problems that negatively affected the population. The purpose of this article is to deepen the understanding of these deficiencies by describing and analyzing the economic consequences of this experience.
