The process of diagnosing cancer can generate effects on patients and their families, however, there are psychosocial factors that can affect the process even more. The objective is to know the psychosocial needs of women with breast cancer from their experience in the diagnostic process. The method consists of a qualitative study with a phenomenological perspective. Eleven women with a diagnosis of breast cancer were interviewed, semi-structured interviews were conducted, which were audio-recorded to transcribe and perform the analysis. A thematic analysis was carried out through the ATLAS.ti software, in order to find patterns that will form categories or units of meaning. With respect to results, the process of suspecting cancer and receiving the diagnosis were the moments experienced with the most emotional distress. The lack of information about cancer and treatments, after diagnosis, were the most reported needs. The importance of social support provided by other people during the diagnostic process was common in all women. The use of social networks and cell phones were the most used and most preferred resources for support provided digitally. In conclusion, it is important to provide psychosocial and comprehensive care during the process of diagnosis of breast cancer. Digital resources are beginning to emerge as strategies to provide care to this population.
