The recent liberalization and economic re-estructuration processes in various Latín-American countries have a directly and indirectly negative effects o ver the archaeological heritage. This pape, tries to reformulate the archaeologísts worlc and their field of study within the society; on the other side it proposes to change the traditional heritage treatment, a mere/y símbolic and cultural e/ement, to a multícomponent resource. This point of view wi/1 help to protect the archaeological heritage in an efficient way
